The Dayton Flyers scored twice in a span of five minutes in the first half, propelling them to a 2-0 win over the Fordham Rams at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 6-8-1 on the season, 0-4-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton improved to 7-8-1 on the year, 3-2-0 in the league.
After an early save by Fordham's
Ally White in the first three minutes, the Flyers offense kicked into gear, as first, Ashley Campbell hit the goal post in the 6
th minute, going across the goal mouth, but did not go in the net.
Then in the 13
th minute, Dayton converted on a turn and shot move by Kelsey Smigel from the top of the box that snuck inside the right post. It was her second of the season with the assist going to Allison Klinefelter.
Five minutes later, the Flyers made it 2-0, when Nicole Waters found Campbell for a finish to the far post. It was her ninth tally of the year.
White would make one more save in the first half, before a collision in the 37
th minute with a Dayton player forced her out of the game, bringing
Megan Fitzgerald off the bench for Fordham.
Fitzgerald made two saves over the final 53+ minutes to keep the deficit at 2-0, but the Rams could not get a shot past Dayton keeper Heather Betancourt, as she made three saves for the shutout.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 24
th, when the Rams host Saint Joseph's at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
