Full List of Nominees
The future of Fordham basketball looks bright, as two Ram signees have been named nominees for the 2014 McDonald's All American Team.
Â
Eric Paschall (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./St. Thomas More) and
Aaliyah Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murray Bergtraum) have both earned what is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious honors a high school basketball player can receive.
Â
Paschall, a 6-6 forward and the 2013 Westchester County Player of the Year, is currently a senior at St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, Conn., after spending three years at Dobbs Ferry High School where he played for head coach Scott Patrillo.
As a junior at Dobbs Ferry in 2012-13, Paschall averaged 26.0 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists to earn state Class B player of the year honors and led the Eagles into the Section 1 finals. He was named Westchester County's Mr. Basketball, becoming just the fourth junior to win the award, joining Elton Brand (Atlanta Hawks), Ben Gordon (Charlotte Bobcats) and Jabarie Hinds (West Virginia/UMass).
Paschall averaged 20 points and nine rebounds per game as a sophomore at Dobbs Ferry. He was named MVP of the 2012 Metro Classic, scoring 35 points in the annual all-star game featuring the top players from the city and the suburbs, in the summer following his sophomore year. Paschall also led his "The City" AAU program to a title at the July 15U championship in Little Rock, Ark., that summer.
Â
Jones, the reigning New York Daily News Player of the Year, will come to Fordham following her senior year at Murray Bergtraum, a New York City girls' basketball powerhouse that won its 15
th consecutive PSAL City Championship last spring. Jones' senior season at Murray Bergtraum is also her first, having spent the previous three years at Bishop Ford in Brooklyn.
Â
While at Bishop Ford, Jones led a Falcons team that not only beat Murray Bergtraum in the "AA" Federation Tournament, but also went on to take the Federation crown. Jones was named the MVP of the Federation Championship Game, leading Bishop Ford over Ossining with 25 points, eight steals, and seven assists. In that game, Jones also did a tremendous job of limiting UConn-bound Saniya Chong, holding the Gatorade Player of the Year and New York State's Miss Basketball to just 10-31 shooting from the floor.
Â
A four-star recruit and the 24
th ranked point guard in the country by ESPN.com, Jones averaged 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists per outing as a junior. Following that campaign, she was also named MSG Varsity's New York City Girls Basketball Player of the Year and the New York Post's All-Brooklyn Player of the Year.
Â
A member of the New Heights AAU program, Jones has enjoyed plenty of success on that front. She was named to the NYC Nike West 4
th Street Summer League All-Tournament team this past summer and earned MVP honors at the Rose Classic Summer Jam in 2012.
