Swimming & Diving Competes in Tri-Meet With La Salle & Richmond

Women’s Team Splits Tri-Meet, While Men Fall to La Salle

Competing for the second time in three days, the Fordham swimming & diving teams made the trek to Philadelphia for a tri-meet against La Salle and Richmond.  The Fordham women earned a split by defeating La Salle, 193-106, while falling to Richmond, 157-142.  On the men's side, La Salle topped Fordham, 202-97.
 
Fordham posted six event wins in the women's competition and four in the men's.
 
The big performance of the day came from freshman Kalena Laurent, who won two event individual events and a relay.  Laurent captured the 200 freestyle in 1:55.27, and later won the 50 freestyle in 5:08.9.  She then finished the day with Kara Field, Megan Gray, and Chandler Lulley in the 400 freestyle relay, which won in a time of 3:34.43.
 
Lulley also had an individual win in addition to the relay win, taking the 100 freestyle in 52.92 seconds.  Other winners for Fordham included Megan Zarriello in the 1000 freestyle in 10:25.74 and Megan Polaha in the 200 butterfly in 2:03.40.
 
In the men's meet with La Salle, Fordham was led by the dynamic duo of Shintaro Noguchi and Steve Sholdra as each won two individual events.  Noguchi brought home the 100 freestyle in 46.57 seconds and followed with a win in the 100 butterfly in 50.34 seconds.  For Sholdra, he captured the 200 butterfly in 1:44.15 and the 500 freestyle in 4:37.39.
 
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Saturday, January 25th, as they compete in a multi-team meet with Rider, Rutgers, and Yale in Piscataway, New Jersey.
