Box Score On a picture perfect night in the Bronx, Fordham and Stony Brook put on a show at Jack Coffey Field with plenty of ups and downs. However, it was the road team that came away with the win, as Alejandro Fritz's goal in the 70
th minute proved to be the difference maker in 3-2 win by Stony Brook.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 2-4-0, while Stony Brook evened its record at 3-3-0.
The scoring chances started early in the sixth minute, when Fordham's
Julian Nagel took a rip from 28 yards out with Stony Brook goalkeeper Jason Orban making a diving save to the left post.
The next shot on goal belonged to Stony Brook nearing the end of the 40
th minute. After a failed Fordham clear, Martin Giordano deflected the ball forward, which was picked up by Will Casey. Casey quickly put a shot toward goal, which found the top left corner for his second goal of the season.
Just over a minute later, Casey made it 2-0 in favor of the Seawolves. Alejandro Fritz made a run out wide in front of the Fordham bench. Fritz got a through ball by the Fordham backline to a streaking Casey, who just slid a shot past Fordham goalkeeper
Alex Naples into the bottom right corner for his second marker of the game.
With momentum in favor of the Seawolves, the Rams caught a break only 23 seconds later. Nagel was out wide on the right side and made a centering pass to
Tommy Granot, 25 yards away from goal. Granot then slid a pass to
T.J. Hughes on the left side of the six yard box. Hughes put a cross back in which Stony Brook defender Tavares Thompson kicked into his own net for an own goal, cutting the deficit in half.
The score remained at 2-1 until the 67
th minute, where Fordham tied the game at two on an outstanding shot. Near the sideline, Fordham's
Eric Walano put in a cross to the box, which was headed out by a Stony Brook defender. The ball ended up on
Jack Bouchard's boot on the left side. Bouchard then ripped a rocket shot from 25 yards out, picking the top right corner for his first career goal.
The momentum did not stay in Fordham's favor for long, as after a foul, Fritz scored on a free kick from 24 yards out in the 70
th minute. He beat Naples to the left post for his second goal of the year.
The Rams could not find the equalizer a second time over the final 20 minutes, as Orban earned the win for the Seawolves, making two saves, while Naples had one.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 25
th, as the Rams travel to Philadelphia to meet Temple University at 3:00 PM.
