On the heels of an historic 26-9 campaign in 2012-2013, the Fordham Rams are gearing up to best that mark this coming season.Â
Â
Today, Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley and the Rams released their 2013-2014 non-conference schedule, a competitive slate featuring four opponents who made postseason appearances a year ago.
Â
Fordham opens up 2013 as part of a Rose Hill doubleheader, facing off against the Dons of San Francisco on November 8th at 6 PM. A fellow Jesuit institution, USF hosted Fordham a year ago in the City by the Bay. This contest will be played in conjunction with the men's basketball season opener, an 8:30 PM game against Saint Francis (Pa.).
Â
After the home opener, the Rams will immediately hit the road, traveling to State College, Pa., to take on the Nittany Lions on November 10th at 2 PM. Penn State is the only team on Fordham's non-conference schedule to have made an NCAA appearance last year, notching the number three seed in the Spokane Regional before getting bounced in the Second Round by LSU.
Â
Following a few days off, the Rams take to the highways once again, this time making a short trip over the Throgs Neck Bridge to play Hofstra on November 15th at 7 PM.
Â
The Rams begin their first home stand of the year after playing the Pride, heading home for three consecutive games in Rose Hill.Â
Â
The first such contest comes on November 17th at 2 PM against Pacific, a WNIT team that bested the Rams on their early season West Coast swing a year ago. After taking on the Tigers, the Rams host two more opponents from 2012-2013, facing off against Yale on the 22nd and American on the 25th. Both of these contests are at 7 PM.
Â
From there the Rams embark on their longest journey of the non-conference season, jetting to sunny Las Vegas for some Thanksgiving action in Sin City. Playing in a tournament hosted by UNLV, the Rams will open play against the home school on November 30th. Depending on how Fordham fares on day one, the team will either take on Cincinnati or former A-10 opponent Charlotte on December 1st.
Â
Making for a nice change of scenery, the Rams will play their first game after Vegas in Worcester, Mass., squaring off against Holy Cross on December 7th at 1 PM.
Â
After an eight-day hiatus, it's back to the Rose Hill Gym for Coach Gaitley's squad, where they will play host to the Redbirds of Illinois State, a WNIT participant in 2012-2013.
Â
The Rams' final game before the Christmas Holidays will be the annual Battle of the Bronx, this year taking place on the campus of Manhattan College on December 21st at 7 PM.
Â
Following their annual rivalry game with Manhattan, the Rams will host the Seventh Annual Fordham Holiday Classic on December 29th and 30th. Fordham will take on UNC Greensboro on the tournament's opening day, before playing either Tulsa or Harvard on day number two. Harvard, like the Rams, also made an appearance in last year's Postseason WNIT.
Â
The Rams will play one exhibition match prior to the season, hosting Kutztown University on November 3rd at 2 PM.
