Fordham Student-Athletes Aid Freshmen on Move-In Day

Football, Track & Field/Cross Country and Cheerleading Squads Lend a Hand to New Students

Most of them have been on campus for over three weeks for preseason practice. But that didn't stop members of the Fordham University football, men's and women's track and field/cross country and cheerleading squads from spending part of their Sunday morning standing at the ready outside of the various dorms, helping the incoming freshmen unload their vehicles.  In what has become an annual event for the Rams, the student-athletes came to the aid of the Office of Residential Life by lending a hand to make move-in day run smoothly.

"The Residential Life Office helps us out when we open camp in the summer by allowing us to move in early," said Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead. "This is our way of thanking them and of welcoming the new students to Fordham."

The Rams were charged with aiding move in at Martyr's Court, Queens Court and at Alumni South, hauling the heavy goods, including refrigerators, televisions and cases of water, up flights of stairs, gleaning admiration from parents and students who thought they would have to do the heavy lifting themselves.

The football squad helped unload vehicles from 9:00 a.m. until noon and the track and field/cross country programs helped out from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., while the cheerleaders were on hand in the parking lot, officially welcoming all new students to Fordham.

The football Rams are preparing for their season opener on Thursday night, August 29, as they host the University of Rhode Island Rams on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are available on the Fordham Athletic Website at www.fordhamsports.com. Student are admitted to all Fordham home football games for free.

The Fordham men's and women's cross country teams will open competition on Saturday, September 7, as they host the Fordham Fiasco/Ed Joyce Memorial at Van Cortlandt Park beginning at 10:30 AM.
