Rams Fall Down Under

Fordham Drops Decision to Australian Professional Team

Taking on their toughest competition of the foreign tour on Monday night, the Rams struggled against the Melbourne Boomers of the WNBL, falling to the professional squad by a score of 69-38.

Abigail Corning led the Rams with eight points on the night, while Hannah Missry and Brianna Jordan each added six.

Samantha Clark pulled down a game-high six boards to go along with four points.

The Boomers got off to an auspicious start, netting the game's first 14 points over the course of just under four minutes.  Nicole Romeo and Rebecca Allen combined for 12 of the team's points during that stretch.

Emily Tapio put Fordham on the board first, converting on a layup with three and a half minutes to go.

The Rams scored five of the game's next seven points, as Corning nailed a three and Erin Rooney sank a jumper to pull Fordham within nine.  But Romeo took a bite out of the Rams' momentum, hitting a buzzer beater from just inside half court to push the Boomers back ahead by 12, 19-7, after one quarter of play.

Melbourne scored seven of the second quarter's first ten points before a pair of Corning free throws made the score 26-12, just over halfway into the period.

A Tapio bucket and a Rooney free throw accounted for Fordham's scoring the rest of the way and the Rams entered the intermission trailing by 19, 34-15.

Despite a pair of three pointers from both Jordan and Missry in the second half, the Boomers maintained their lead, eventually topping the Rams.

Fordham will start the second leg of its foreign tour in the morning, hopping across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand.
