Bronx, N.Y. -

Fordham University men's basketball head coach Tom Pecora announced the signing of Jon Severe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King), the 2013 New York State Mr. Basketball honoree, to a National Letter of Intent for the 2013-14 season.

Severe, a 6-2 guard, is coming off an outstanding senior season at Christ the King High School in Queens where he led the Royals to the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens regular season and postseason titles, the CHSAA Class AA intersectional championship and New York State Federation Class AA championship. For his accomplishments, Severe received New York State's highest honor, being named Mr. New York Basketball, an award bestowed on the top senior in the entire state. He was also named First Team All-State by the USA Today Sports Group and the 2012-2013 MSG Varsity All-Metro Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

At the Federation championship series in Albany, Severe set a Class AA state Federation two-game scoring mark with 68 points in a pair of wins, including 40 points in a 68-55 victory over Bishop Kearney in the semifinals, to earn MVP honors of the tournament.

More recently, Severe appeared in the Jordan Brand Classic at Barclays Center on April 13, netting 16 points and dishing out five assists to lead the White Team, made up of New York City stars, to a comeback win over their Black Team.

Severe scored over 1,100 points in his Christ the King career, averaging 21.6 ppg as a senior this past winter, shooting 40 percent from three-point range.

"We're thrilled to have Jon Severe become a part of our basketball family," said Pecora. "He will have a huge effect on the rise of our program over the next four years. His ability to score the ball and make other players around him better make him an exceptional athlete. The entire Fordham community is proud to have Jon join us."
