Newport News, Va. (December 30, 2013) – Fordham University swept the weekly Atlantic 10 men's basketball awards today with senior guard
Branden Frazier being named player of the week and freshman guard
Jon Severe being named rookie of the week for games played Dec. 23 – 29. It is the fourth rookie of the week award for Severe this season and the second player of t the week award for Frazier.
Frazier averaged 23.5 points and 8.0 assists as the Rams split a pair of games this week, defeating Loyola-Chicago, 83-69, on Monday and falling to Harvard, 94-86, on Saturday. He netted 16 points and dished out nine assists in a win over Loyola-Chicago and followed that with his second 30-plus point game of the year, tallying 31 points in a loss to an 11-1 Harvard team. Frazier shot 11-of-20 from the field with seven assist s against the Crimson. He was also perfect from the line in both games, a combined 13-of-13 for the week.
With his 47 points in the two games, Frazier moved into 14th place on the Fordham career scoring list with 1,304 points. It's the second Player of the Week award for Frazier, who also was named to the award on Dec. 16.
Severe, the leading scorer in the Atlantic 10, added to those numbers with a pair of 20-point performances. He scored 23 in the win over Loyola, with a perfect 11-for-11 from the line. He also added six assists in the win. He tallied 29 points against Harvard, 27 of which came in the second half. He was 11-of-19 (.579) from the field and 5-of-9 (.556) from 3-point range in the game. The guard also had six rebounds and two assists in the game. It's the second straight Rookie of the Week award for Severe, who also won the award in the first week of the season and on Dec. 2.
The Rams return to action on Monday night as they travel to Albany to face the Siena College Saints in the Times Union Center at 7:00 p.m.
