RICHMOND, Va.- Prior to last season, before shocking the league with an astounding 26-9 campaign, the Fordham Rams were picked to finish 11
th out of 16 teams in the Atlantic 10. This season, Fordham victories will come as no surprise to their A-10 counterparts, as the league's coaches picked the Rams to finish fourth in 2013-14.
Â
In addition to grabbing fourth place in the preseason poll, the Rams also earned a few individual honors. Redshirt senior guard
Erin Rooney (Christchurch, New Zealand/Marian/Monmouth), a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection last year, was voted to the Preseason All-Conference First Team and the Preseason All-Defensive Team, while sophomore forward
Samantha Clark (Neptune, N.J./St. Rose) earned a spot on the third team.
Â
All these accolades were announced on Tuesday afternoon at Atlantic 10 Media Day in Richmond, Va.
Â
Dayton, one of two Atlantic 10 squads to make last year's NCAA Tournament, earned the top spot in the preseason poll, taking all but one first place vote. Reigning conference champion Saint Joseph's garnered the remaining first place vote and was predicted to finish second in the league. Duquesne edged out Fordham by just one point for third in the poll. George Washington and Richmond we're picked to finish in the two spots behind the Rams, while VCU and Saint Louis came in at seventh and eighth, respectively. The Billikens were followed, in order, by Saint Bonaventure, La Salle, George Mason, UMass and Rhode Island.
