Swimming & Diving Goes 3-1 at Dual Meet Against Boston College & Williams College

Chesnut Hill, Mass. - (Dec. 4, 2010) - The Fordham swimming and diving teams got back to action for the final time this semester on Saturday, as they competed at a dual meet with Boston College and Williams College at Chesnut Hill, Massachusetts. Fordham had a strong showing, as the Fordham women defeated both opponents, while the men earned a split.

Fordham defeated Williams College 167-131 on the men's side, while the women earned a 160.5-139.5 win over the Ephs. Against Boston College, the women won, 204-96, while the men fell to the Eagles 203-95.

Fordham totaled 12 event winners, nine of which came on the women's side of the competition. Things began with the women's 200 medley relay, placing first in a time of 1:48.28, while the men's medley relay took second in 1:37.57.

The Rams earned a second and a third place finish in the women's 1000 freestyle, as Megan McGorry took second (10:27.49) with Kara Field finishing third (10:32.51), which was followed by a 1-2 finish in the women's 200 freestyle. Brienne Ryan placed first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:54.97, followed by Alexandra Wessel in second at 1:56.32. In the men's 200 freestyle, Shintaro Noguchi took second overall in 1:44.28.

The 100 backstroke was a Fordham sweep, as Christina Cosentino won the women's event in 58.31 seconds, while Billy Colton won the men's event in 52.71 seconds.

In the men's 100 breaststroke, Ben Dwyer was the Rams' best finisher, taking third in 1:01.38, while in the women's 200 butterfly, Courtney Collyer was second in a season-best time of 2:07.40.The 50 freestyle event saw Kellie Lyver win her race in 24.68 seconds, while Devon Morris was second on the men's side in 21.74 seconds. Ryan then captured her second win of the day, capturing the 100 freestyle event in 52.27 seconds.

Collyer and Cosentino then posted back-to-back win in the 200 breaststroke and 200 backstroke respectively. Collyer won the breaststroke in a season-best time of 2:23.80, while Cosentino clocked in at 2:07.50. In the men's 200 backstroke, Robert Gitman and Thomas Yi finished second and third in times of 1:57.15 and 1:58.07, respectively.

Noguchi then won the men's 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 50.75 seconds, while Collyer was second in the 200 individual medley in a season-best time of 2:08.09.

The swimming day was capped off with the 400 freestyle relay, which Fordham sweep both races. The women won in 3:34.42, while the men also won in 3:10.01.

In the diving events, the Fordham women swept the top three spots in both the one-meter and three-meter competitions. Elizabeth Dorger won the one-meter event with a score of 261.50, and later took third in the three-meter board (247.20). Andrea Krok was second in both events, posting her season-best scores of 257.45 (1M) and 248.85 (3M), while Brittany Salas won the three-meter board with a score of 260.65 and grabbed third in the one-meter board (243.25). On the men's side, Kevin Wong took second in the one-meter board with a season-best score of 208.50, and fourth in the three-meter board (177.80), while Joon Kyung Kim was third in both boards, posting scores of 195.80 (1M) and 183.05 (3M).

The teams are now off until January 21st and 22nd, when the women host C.W. Post on Friday, January 21st, while both squads will host La Salle University on Saturday, January 22nd.
