Philadelphia, Pa. - (Jan. 23, 2010) - Continuing their drive toward the Atlantic 10 Championship, the Fordham swimming & diving teams split their meet with La Salle on Saturday at Kirk Pool in Philadelphia. The women's team (10-0) stayed undefeated with a 191-108 win over the Explorers, while the men's team (6-3) was upended by La Salle, 180-118.
Brienne Ryan and Kelly Bunster were the Rams' top performers on the afternoon. Ryan won three individual events, as she took first in the 100 backstroke (56.26), 50 freestyle (25.01), and 200 backstroke (2:08.28). She also joined up with Nicole Marshall, Bunster, and Tressa Dunn to win the 200 medley relay in 1:47.36.
Bunster was also a multiple event winner for the women, taking the top spot in the 100 freestyle (53.72) and 100 butterfly (58.27). In addition to her medley relay work, she joined with Kellie Lyver, Dunn, and Caitlin Napoli on the 400 freestyle relay, which won in 3:36.53.
Other women's event winners included Dunn in the 200 freestyle (1:56.20), Courtney Collyer in the 200 butterfly (2:06.21), Andrea Krok in the one meter dive (254.62), and Napoli in the 500 freestyle (5:04.35).
On the men's side, Ryan Coombs had the best afternoon, posting two event wins, while being a part of both winning relays. Coombs started it off by winning the 200 butterfly (1:56.42) and the 100 butterfly (51.88). He then joined Billy Colton, Matthew Grabiak, and Justin Coombs to take second in the 200 medley relay in 1:36.22. Later, he joined, Colton, Devon Morris, and J. Coombs to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:10.36.
The men's team posted three other individual wins on the day. Colton won the 100 backstroke in 53.26, J. Coombs took the 100 freestyle in 48.18, and Thomas Yi won the 200 individual medley in 2:00.42.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will now have their annual showdown with Massachusetts on Saturday, January 30th, in Amherst, Massachusetts, beginning at 1:00 PM.
