Bronx, N.Y. - (Oct. 23, 2009) - Racing for the second straight night didn't seem to slow down the Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving squads as both teams swept a tri-meet from Fairfield and Saint Peter's in the Col. Frances B. Messmore Aquatics Center. The Fordham men defeated Fairfield, 143-94, and Saint Peter's, 149-76, while the women were victorious over Fairfield by a score of 165-72 and Saint Peter's by a tally of 170-57.
With the wins, the Fordham women are now 3-0 on the young season while the men are 2-1.
The Fordham women won ten events on the night, led by Courtney Collyer and Kelly Bunster who each won two. Collyer took the 200 free (1:55.44) and 500 free (5:10.94) while Bunster was victorious in the 50 free (24.48) and the 100 fly (58.04).
Other event winners for the women were Megan McGorry, who won the 1000 free (10:32.13) and took second in 100 fly (1:00.49), Caitlin Napoli, who took the 200 IM (2:10.56), Nicole Marshall, who was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.98), Brienne Ryan, who took the 100 free (52.80) and placed second in the 200 free (1:55.61), Brittany Salas, who won the one meter (223.95) diving competition and placed second on the three meter board (234.00) and Andrea Krok, who won the three meter diving competition (251.40) and took second on the one meter board (219.00).
Turning in second place finishes for the women were Emily Wojdyla (1000 free - 11:00.04), Samantha Heyman (50 free - 25.44), Tressa Dunn (200 IM - 2:13.01), Kellie Lyver (100 free - 54.08), Christina Cosentino (100 back - 59.41), Alexandra Alessi (500 free - 5:18.28) and Kim Bouton (100 breaststroke - 1:11.00).
The Fordham women also won both relays on the night. The 400 medley relay team of Ryan, Marshall, Bunster and Dunn took first in 3:57.34 while the 400 free relay of Dunn, Alana Biagioli, Lara Moseley and Lyver touched first in a time of 3:39.10.
On the men's side, the Rams won seven events, led by Justin Coombs and Billy Colton, who won two each. Coombs won the 100 free (47.67) and 200 free (1:46.00) while Colton placed first in the 50 free (21.66) and 100 back (51.93).
Other winners for the men were Ryan Coombs, who won the 100 fly (51.89) and took second in 200 IM (2:01.24), Lucien Monson, who was victorious in the 1000 free (10:05.93) and Andrew Buemi, who won the 500 free (4:57.87).
Placing second for the Fordham men were Robert Gitman (in both the 200 free (1:48.66) and 100 back (54.08)), Benjamin Otto (on both the one (247.13) and three meter (229.58) boards) and Devon Morris (50 free - 22.21).
The Fordham men also took both relays with the 400 medley relay team of Colton, Matthew Grabiak, Ryan Coombs and Justin Coombs winning in a time of 3:30.98 while the 400 free squad of Morris, Jason Dobbs, Rami Fetyani and Eric Prendergast placed first in a time of 3:14.72.
The Fordham swimming squads will be back in action tomorrow as they compete in the Husky Invitational in Storrs, Connecticut, beginning at noon.
