Philadelphia, Pa. - (Jan. 19, 2008) - The Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving squads traveled to Philadelphia to face La Salle University today with the women defeating the Explorers, 143-88, while the men fell, 124-119.
With the win, the women improve to 6-1 on the year while the men fall to 4-3.
Three Fordham women won two events, led by Caitlin Napoli, who took the 200 free in a time of 1:54.21 and the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:08.93 while Nicole Marshall won the 200 IM in 2:10.41 and the 200 breaststroke in a 2:22.18 clocking. Marisa Colangelo was the third dual event winner for Fordham, taking both the one (201.10) and three (224.33) meter diving competitions.
Other winners for the women were Christina Cosentino, who took first in the 200 backstroke (2:08.00), and Alexandria Ukleja, who won the 200 free (5:12.57).
Placing second in events for the Rams were Anne Conroy (1000 free - 10:32.84), Marina Montoya (200 IM - 2:12.47), Katelynn Gray (200 butterfly - 2:11.22) and Tressa Dunn (100 free - 54.61) while Ashley Ukleja took third in both the 500 (5:16.17) and 1000 free (10:37.67).
In women's relays, the Fordham A team won the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:59.88 while the 400 freestyle relay team placed second (3:42.38).
Ryan Coombs led the Fordham men, winning both the 200 free (1:44.93) and the 500 free (4:49.62) while Donato Callara won on both the one (261.83) and three (290.55) boards.
Lucien Monson also picked up a win for the men, taking 1000 free in a time of 9:57.40 while also placing second in the 500 free (4:52.26).
Other Fordham men placing second included Justin Coombs (100 free - 48.42) and William Colton (200 backstroke - 1:59.27) while Austin Iveson (210.22) and Benjamin Otto (206.63) placed second and third, respectively, on the one meter board and Anthony Giavannone (207.16) and Otto (203.10) placed second and third, respectively, on the three meter board.
In men's relays, the Fordham A team won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:14.69 while placing second in the 400 medley relay (3:34.39).
The women's swimming and diving squad will next be in action on Friday, January 25th, as they host C.W. Post at 6:00 p.m. in the Messmore Aquatics Center while the men's and women's teams will be in action on Saturday, February 2nd, as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts, to take on the University of Massachusetts at 1:00 p.m.
