Bronx, N.Y. - Nov. 17, 2007 - The game time temperature outside was 44 degrees, which might have reflected the cold shooting inside the Rose Hill Gym during Saturday night's women's basketball game. Both Fordham and Lehigh shot under 35% from the field, but it was the Mountain Hawks, who would eventually walk away with a 46-33 win over the Rams.
With the loss, Fordham dropped to 0-3 on the season, while Lehigh evened their record at 1-1.The teams opened the game combining for just five made shots in the first 11 plus minutes.
The fifth made shot was a three-pointer by Fordham's
Megan Mahoney, giving Fordham a 9-7 lead. Fordham continued to lead by two, before Kaela Pearce hit a three-pointer with 5:09 remaining to give Lehigh a 12-11 advantage. The Rams came back with the next two baskets, a three-pointer by
Annie Zopf and a lay-up by Mahoney, to put Fordham ahead by four, 16-12. Lehigh though got a free throw and a late basket by Erica Prosser, as Fordham led by one, heading into the break.
The baskets continued to not be friendly to the Rams, as Fordham did not score a point until the 9:48 mark of the second half. Lehigh scored the first 12 points of the period, turning a one-point deficit into an 11-point lead. Fordham closed the gap back to seven, 29-22, on a three-pointer by Zopf and a basket by Mahoney, but the Rams could not get any closer as Prosser hit six straight free throws at the end of the game to seal the 13-point win.
For Fordham, Mahoney led the team in scoring for the third straight game with 14 points and three steals, while Zopf netted 11 points. Takita Earl hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds to go with four blocks, with Kristina Bell having 10 rebounds.
Lehigh was led by Kaela Pearce, who scored 13 points, while Erica Prosser added 12 points.
The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Tuesday, November 20th, as they begin a three-game road trip in the Sunshine State and will play Florida State, beginning at 11:00 AM.
