Tallahassee, Fla. - Heading into a match-up with the 20th ranked team in the country, the Fordham Rams knew it was in for a hard day's work at the Tucker Center. The Seminoles didn't make it easy, as Mara Freshour scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting, to lead Florida State to a 77-42 win over the Rams.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 0-4, while Florida State improves to 4-1.
The game opened with Florida State scoring the first five points, which Fordham closed to 5-4, following baskets from Megan Mahoney and Kassie Humphries. The Rams then took their first lead on a baby hook shot from Annie Zopf with 14:29 left. Freshour then hit for five more points, to give FSU, a 10-6 lead. Fordham kept within four, 12-8, on a Takita Earl jump hook with 11:20 remaining in the period. The Rams stayed close on a three-pointer by Zopf, but Freshour hit her third three of the half and another lay-up to give the Seminoles a 22-11 lead.
Florida State then got seven straight points from Tanae Davis-Cain, pushing the Seminoles' lead to 31-16 with 2:44 remaining, before another three from Freshour and six points by Jacinta Monroe help the Seminoles cap the half with a 40-20 lead over Fordham.
At the break, Mara Freshour led all scorers with 18 points, as she hit four three-point baskets, while Tanae Davis-Cain had 10 points. For Fordham, Annie Zopf had a team-best seven points, while Kristina Bell had four points and four rebounds.
Florida State scored the first six points of the second half, extending its lead to 46-20. Following a three-pointer by Beth Troutt, Monroe scored her second basket of the half at the other end, leaving the Seminoles up 53-28. Freshour continued her offensive day with her fifth three-pointer of the game, extending the Seminoles lead to 62-31, and they would go on to a 77-42 victory.
For Fordham, Annie Zopf led the way with 10 points, while Beth Troutt added nine points off the bench. Kristina Bell netted six points and five rebounds in her first career start, while Megan Mahoney chipped in seven points.
Florida State's Mara Freshour scored a career-high 25 points to go with four rebounds, while Tanae Davis-Cain netted 16 points and four boards.
The Fordham women's basketball team continues their road trip this weekend in Coral Gables, Florida, as they participate in the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament. The Rams will meet the Hurricanes on Friday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM, and then either Butler or Monmouth on Saturday, November 24th.
