Fordham women's basketball head coach Stephanie Gaitley added a pair of recruits to her incoming class for the 2012-13 season as Briana Jordan (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross/Tennessee Tech) and Khadijah Gibson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry Wise) inked letters of intent to come to Fordham, joining incoming freshman Samantha Clark, who signed earlier in the year. Gibson and Clark are eligible immediately, while Jordan, a transfer from Tennessee Tech, will redshirt the 2012-13 season and be eligible for the 2013-14 campaign.
Gibson, a 5-8 guard, comes to Fordham after a standout career at Henry Wise High School that saw her lead the team to the Maryland 4A finals and a #17 state ranking. Gibson finished her senior season with 431 points, highlighted by a 27 point outburst against Parkdale High School. She scored 20 or more points nine times as a senior and averaged 17.2 points and 4.8 assists per game.
Along with her 17.2 points, Gibson averaged 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game which bodes well for the Rams, a team that finished second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense in 2011-12. She was named First Team All-Gazette by the Maryland Gazette following her senior season. Gibson will look to challenge at the guard position at Fordham.
In the classroom, Gibson maintained a 4.25 GPA, while taking advanced placement classes. She plans to major in business.
Coach Gaitley reflected on the signing: "Khadijah is a winner both on the court and in the classroom. She is a strong and physical guard who will be able to learn a great deal from the talented group of upperclassmen already here."
Briana Jordan, a 5-6 guard, completed her high school career at the same high school (Norcross) that produced former men's basketball standout, Brenton Butler. Like Butler, she is the daughter of a former professional athlete, former Major League baseball player Brian Jordan, while her mother, Pam Jordan (nee Bryant), played for Coach Gaitley at Richmond, where she is just one of two players to be honored with a banner in the Robins Center. In fact, Gaitley will be the only active coach to have a player on the current roster after previously coaching her mother.
Jordan's high school career began at Greater Atlanta Christian before ending at Norcross. At Greater Atlanta Christian, she was part of a state championship team during her freshman year. She led Norcross to the Sweet 16 of the 7A state tournament as a junior and was named All-County First Team as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Coach Gaitley reflected on Jordan: "Briana will be able to use this year to learn a new system and challenge her teammates daily. Briana has great bloodlines. Her mom (Pam Bryant) was arguably the best player in the history of the University of Richmond basketball, while her father, Brian, was a Major League Baseball All-Star with the Cardinals and Braves. "
"Pam was a pleasure to coach and I am excited to have Briana join the Fordham family. She will be a great addition on and off the court."
Following Jordan's high school career, she played the past two seasons at Tennessee Tech. She will have two seasons remaining with the Rams.
