Katie Lane begins her fourth season with the Fordham rowing staff, her first as the Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator.
Over the past three years Lane has helped the Fordham recruiting program to its most competitive level in our program’s history. She also has had an extremely positive impact on the program and has helped lead the Rams to their best team performance at both the Atlantic 10 Championships and Dad Vail.
Most recently Lane had been serving as the head coach of men’s rowing at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Lane was instrumental in developing rowing at Wentworth. She served as club head coach from 2011-2013 and was named the first varsity head coach in 2013. Under her direction, Wentworth Rowing evolved from a small, non-competitive club sport to a highly successful varsity squad. Notable performances have included the program’s first medals at the Head of the Charles in 2012, the Dad Vail Regatta in 2012 and the New England Rowing Championships in 2012 and 2013.  Lane furthered their success with victories in both the Men’s First and Second Varsity 4+ events at the New England Rowing Championships in 2014, the greatest milestone in the program’s history to date. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 2011 with a B.A. in English, Lane accepted a place in the inaugural class of the Institute for Rowing Leadership that same year. This new advanced coaching education program, recognized by USRowing and hosted at Community Rowing Inc., is designed to develop championship caliber coaches over a 12-month period.   She was the youngest individual to complete and graduate from this program in June 2012.
Â
Lane also coached under the leadership of renowned junior coach Ethan Curren at Community Rowing Inc. from 2011 to 2013 producing medal-winning shells at the USRowing Youth National Championships and more than a dozen medals at the USRowing Club National Championships.
Â
Lane started her rowing career in 2007 during her freshman year at the University of Vermont. After suffering a shoulder injury, she switched roles to become a coxswain for the Men’s Varsity Squad until 2011. As a member of the men’s varsity squad, she helped them win back-to-back-to-back championship titles in the Men’s Varsity 4+ event at the New England Rowing Championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011.  She also has international experience as a member of the University College Dublin Men Squad in Fall 2009. Â
Â
Additionally, Lane has been a masters men’s competitive coxswain since 2009 with Riverfront Recapture in Hartford, CT and Community Rowing Inc. in Brighton, MA. She has been working with HereNOW Systems since 2013, timing all USRowing events during the summer seasons.
