Over two seasons, Mitchell has already led the Rams to 27 victories, the fourth most wins ever by a women's basketball head coach in their first two years with the program, including 20 victories at the Rose Hill Gym.
Coach B’s first recruiting classes have been highlighted by the additions of Irene Murua last season and Taylor Donaldson over the past two, who have helped lead the Rams on the offensive front. Donaldson turned into an everyday starter when she arrived in the Bronx, graduating from Fordham after receiving both All-Conference and All-MET honors during each of her two seasons in Maroon and White.
The 2024-25 campaign saw the Rams improve on their win total from Mitchell’s first season, while posting a .500 record in league play. Fordham crashed the offensive glass all season long, leading the A-10, and sitting 15th best in the entire nation averaging 15.1 offensive rebounds per game. The Rams also sat amongst the national leaders in total rebounds, turnovers forced per game, and steals per game.
In her first season at Fordham, Donaldson led the Atlantic 10 Conference in scoring with 483 points and earned A-10 All-Conference Second Team honors. Despite being picked to finish 13th in the preseason poll, the Rams surpassed expectations by finishing 9th and qualifying for the A-10 Conference Tournament. Mitchell's inaugural year in maroon and white concluded with a .444 winning percentage, showcasing her ability to foster improvement and resilience within the team.
Before her arrival at Fordham, Mitchell served as the head coach at Northeastern University from 2021 to 2023. In her second season, she guided the Huskies to a share of their first-ever CAA regular season title, achieving a 13-5 league record after being picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll. This remarkable turnaround included a program-record nine consecutive victories and a total of 19 wins overall. For her efforts, she was recognized as the CAA Coach of the Year. Mitchell's tenure at Northeastern was marked by significant milestones, including a win over Drexel that ended a 17-game losing streak against the Dragons and secured a top-three seed in the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2005-06.
In her inaugural season as a head coach in 2021-22, Mitchell took over a team that was projected to finish last in the conference and led them to a top-half finish. Under her guidance, the Huskies advanced to the Women’s Basketball Invitational for only the second time in program history.
Mitchell’s coaching career has been characterized by a series of successful stints, including her time as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh, where she played a key role in attracting top talent to the program. Her earlier coaching experience at James Madison University saw her contribute to a remarkable record of 78-26 over three seasons, resulting in multiple postseason appearances.
A former McDonald’s All-American and New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year, Mitchell enjoyed a stellar playing career at Duke University, where she contributed to a team that recorded an impressive 109-22 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament four times. Her strong academic background includes a sociology degree with a minor in African American studies, along with a certificate in markets and management studies.
Before embarking on her coaching career, Mitchell played professionally overseas, competing in France and Poland, where she earned a bronze medal in the European Championships.
With her dynamic leadership and commitment to excellence, Bridgette Mitchell is poised to make a significant impact on the Fordham women’s basketball program and its future success.
University President Tania Tetlow expressed her enthusiasm for Mitchell’s leadership, stating, “We welcome Bridgette Mitchell to the Rams—she is the right coach and mentor for our student athletes, and the right person to continue the team’s upward trajectory.” Athletic Director Ed Kull echoed this sentiment, praising Mitchell’s impressive pedigree as both a coach and a player. “From the beginning of our national search, I have been thoroughly impressed with Coach Mitchell,” he noted. “She possesses a passion for the job that's evident to everyone she meets. I know that she's going to approach this new position with a relentless energy that will elevate our women's basketball program to new heights.”
