Recent US Lightweight National Team rower, Nick Dawe, enters his fifth year on the Fordham rowing staff as the Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach.
Dawe began his career at Fordham in 2010 as the Freshmen/Novice coach and was elevated to varsity assistant coach and recruiting coordinator the following year. In his second year, Dawe helped Fordham Rowing break an all time record at the 2012 Dad Vail Championship. Seven crews advanced to the semi-finals with three moving on to the grand finals. Working closely with Head Coach Ted Bonanno, Dawe helped develop all seven of the 2012 Dad Vail semi-finalist crews including the Varsity Lightweight 4 that earned a Dad Vail bronze medal and the Freshmen 4 winning Dad Vail gold by open water. During the 2013 spring season, Dawe coached the Fordham Lightweight 4 to a fourth place finish at the Dad Vail Championship and a bronze medal at the IRA National Championship in Sacramento, CA. During the summer of 2013, Dawe was named the Head Women’s Coach of the New York Athletic Club where he will develop women aspiring to make the US national team.
Dawe’s rowing career began in high school for the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. He helped lead his team to four undefeated regular seasons, 7 gold medals at the Midwest Regional Junior Championships, as well as gold and silver medals in back-to-back years at the US Rowing Youth National Championships in the Varsity Heavyweight 8. He also competed in the Princess Elizabeth Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta in Great Britain advancing to the quarter-finals. As co-captain his senior year, Nick was awarded the St. Xavier High School Most Valuable Rower award.
Dawe continued his rowing career at Dartmouth College on the Men's Varsity Lightweight team. He was part of a very successful freshmen crew (5-1) and continued on as a three year member of the first varsity eight. He twice competed in the lightweight 8 grand finals of the IRA National Championship and finished 4th in the varsity lightweight 8 at the Eastern Sprints Championship.
At Dartmouth, Dawe received the "Timothy Ryerson Outstanding Freshmen Oarsman" award for his leadership role on the freshmen team and achievements as an athlete. As a sophomore, he was voted by the upperclassman and coaching staff as the "Class of 1990 Underclassman of the Year" award recipient for his impact on the varsity squad as consistently being one of the top athletes. Dawe also served as Commodore of the Lightweight Crew and Vice-President of the Dartmouth Rowing Club his senior year.
Nick has twice trained and competed at an elite level. In 2012, Dawe competed on the US National Team racing in the four seat of the US Lightweight Eight at the Senior World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. During the summer of 2009, he was a member of Riverside Boat Club's elite summer program and competed in their top lightweight boats at the Royal Canadian Henley finishing 2nd in both the U23 Lightweight 4- and Senior Lightweight 8.
