In his third year with the Fordham track and field program, Jack Maloney arrived at Rose Hill after serving as the men's head coach at Southern Connecticut State University for the previous eleven years.

Maloney enjoyed an affiliation with Southern Connecticut State that spanned more than 25 years. He served as men's head coach for the past eleven seasons, leading the Owls to 14 consecutive Northeast-10 Conference track and field championships - seven indoors and seven outdoors.

The 2008-09 season was another tremendously successful campaign for the Owls. The Owls then maintained their reign of dominance during track season, as they won both the Northeast-10 Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Maloney was named as Conference Coach of the Year during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, while also taking home United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Region Coach of the Year accolades during both campaigns. On the team front, the Owls placed as high as 10th at the NCAA Championships under Maloney - with that coming outdoors in 2001.
