Stephanie Tobey joined head coach Cathy Andruzzi's women's basketball staff as an assistant coach in July 2010 after spending five seasons as the head coach at Lynchburg College and two as the head coach at Lasell College.
"Stephanie's experience as a head coach on the collegiate level and internationally will add depth to our coaching staff, the most we've had," remarked Andruzzi. "She will be working with the post players and will focus on expanding our international recruiting."
At Lynchburg, Tobey's coaching career was highlighted by her 2007-08 campaign that tied the Hornets for fourth place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with a 16-10 record, the most wins for a Lynchburg Squad since the 2002-03 season. In 2008-09, Lynchburg had one of the best turnarounds in Division III, improving by nine games to have the ninth-best turnaround, despite a team filled with underclassmen. The Hornets accumulated 49 wins in Tobey's five seasons at the helm, including 41 in the tough ODAC. Tobey's first recruiting class produced a first-team All-ODAC honoree, a second-team All-ODAC player, an All-ODAC Honorable Mention and second-team All-State and All-South Region.
Prior to Lynchburg, Tobey was the head coach at Lasell College in Newton, Mass., from 2003-05. At Lasell, a member of the Division III North Atlantic Conference (NAC), Tobey helped the young Lasers to an 11-14 record in 2004-05. She also served as the women's lacrosse team's assistant coach for one season.
Tobey was also an assistant coach at Brown University from 2002-03, where she co-supervised the preseason strength and conditioning team workouts and helped coordinate recruiting activities while assisting with post-player development.
Tobey has also coached internationally as the head coach of the USA Athletes International teams in 2006, 2007 and 2009. With USAAI, Tobey recruited collegiate athletes to compete at the Bajan Friendship Tournament hosted in Barbados, the Arafura Games hosted in Australia and the Eastern Games hosted in Italy. Tobey's squad took home the silver medal in Australia in an Olympic-style tournament.
An alumna of Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I., Tobey graduated in 2002 with degrees in business administration and communication with a psychology minor. She was a two-sport student-athlete and was captain of both the basketball and lacrosse teams. She was a part of Bryant's first-ever women's lacrosse team in 2002. Tobey completed her masters of education at Lynchburg in May 2009.
