Wil Wright is the newest member of the Fordham coaching staff, joining the Rams in August of 2009 after a long association with the track and field program at Southern Connecticut State University.

Wright was affiliated with the Southern Connecticut State University program for 47 seasons, spending 35 of those years as head coach of the men's track and field team (1963-98), and 27 as head coach of men's cross country program as well. Astoundingly, he never had a losing season with any of those teams. Wright stepped down as head coach in 1998, but remained with the Owls as an assistant coach until 2009. During his time as head coach, Wright developed the program into one of New England's best. He coached a total of 18 NCAA Division II individual champions during his tenure and an even 100 All-Americans. Ninety-four student-athletes were named Division II All- Americans, while another six earned Division I All-America accolades.

On the team front, the Owls placed in the top 10 at the NCAA Division II Championships on eight occasions, including a second-place finish by the outdoor track and field team in 1981. That squad featured seven All-Americans. The Owls totaled 13 All-Americans in 1985, a single-season high that remains in place to the current day. Wright was selected as the New England Coach of the Year for cross country and indoor and outdoor track on numerous occasions and has also been recognized regionally and nationally for his teams' successes. Administratively, Wright was also involved in numerous activities, including a six-year term on the NCAA Cross Country/Track and Field Rules Committee.

Also an assistant football coach for seven seasons at Southern, Wright is a Professor of Physical Education Emeritus, a former department chairman and was a longstanding member of the University Curriculum and Instruction Committees. He earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University in 1957 and a master's degree from Springfield College, with doctoral studies at Indiana University. Wright resides in Milford, Conn. with his wife, Betsey, a teacher at Branford High School.
