Michael Kelly, a 2005 graduate of Haverford College, begins his second year at Fordham after serving for four years on the Hofstra staff, being named an assistant coach in June of 2006.
Kelly spent the 2005-06 season a graduate manager at Hofstra, assisting with the individual instruction of the Pride's players, as well as the program's video scouting reports and film exchange. His efforts helped the Pride to a 26-7 record and a quarterfinal appearance in the Postseason National Invitation Tournament. The 26 wins tied a school record for most victories in a season, while the Pride's two wins in the Postseason NIT represented the first two Division I postseason wins in school history.
At Hofstra, Kelly coordinated the individual instruction programs of all players, supervised the Hofstra Basketball academic program, and directed the film exchange program. Kelly's responsibilities also include serving as facilities coordinator, and scheduling practices, workouts, walkthroughs, and weight training sessions. In addition, Kelly worked on the development of Hofstra's guards, the team's overall execution, and assisted with recruiting, playbook and basketball organization.
While at Haverford, Kelly played for four seasons on the men's basketball team. He ranks third all-time at Haverford in career three-pointers made and in career free throw percentage, and was also chosen for the team's Best Defensive Player Award. He also was a member of the Haverford track and field team, earning a bronze medal at the prestigious Penn Relays as a member of the 4x400 relay team. Kelly graduated from Haverford with a degree in mathematics.
Prior to attending Haverford, Kelly was a captain of the basketball team at Carle Place High School on Long Island, where he was named the team Most Valuable Player and was selected to the All-Nassau County team. He was chosen to play in Nassau County's Exceptional Seniors Game, winning the three-point contest that preceded the game.
