John Wholley, a former UConn running back, joins Tom Masella's staff after serving as an offensive graduate assistant at his alma mater the past three years. He will be in charge of the running backs and slot receivers at Fordham in 2009.
While at UConn, Wholley's responsibilities included coordinating the defensive scout team and analyzing game films of UConn's opponents.
Prior to UConn, Wholley spent the 2005 season as an offensive assistant at Central Connecticut working with the Blue Devils' offense and the tight ends in particular under Masella.
Wholley arrived in New Britain after completing his collegiate career at UConn in 2004, earning a varsity letter that season after appearing in five games. He originally made the UConn team as a walk-on but earned a scholarship through his hard work. Wholley appeared in a total of 12 games at UConn after transferring from Wagner College, where he played in all but two games as a freshman in 2000. Prior to UConn, Wholley was an All-Conference and All-Hartford Courant pick, leading Southington High School to the state championship as a junior in 1998.
A native of Southington, Conn., Wholley earned a bachelor's degree in political science from UConn in December of 2004 and a master's degree in sports management in 2008.
