Hosts: Strength & Conditioning Program
In 1996, Fordham University received a very important and exciting addition to its athletic facilities. The addition is in the form of a 3,200 square foot Varsity Athletic Training Facility, located under the stands of Jack Coffey Field. This facility benefits each varsity athletic squad within the University.
The facility offers a new state-of-the-art weight room, which is much larger than the previuos Danowski Varsity Weight Room housed within the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Center.
The facility was built due in large part to a tremendous $500,000 gift by Fordham alumnus Bill Walsh ’51. Mr. Walsh in turn challenged the Fordham University Gridiron Club to match his donation dollar-for-dollar. The $500,000 that Mr. Walsh donated is part of his recent $10.5 million gift to Fordham University which helped complete the new library on the Rose Hill campus, named in Walsh’s honor.
“This will help the Fordham program, and I agree that a weight room is of vital importance,” Mr. Walsh said. “It will benefit all Fordham athletes and improve everyone’s performance.”
This new facility marks another step in the continued rebuilding efforts of Fordham University, and the positive effect should be felt by all Fordham varsity sports.
In summer 2009, the weight room was remodeled, featuring new flooring, a new sound system, and nine power racks and platforms.
