Volleyball Sweeps Plays on Day Two of Bryant Invitational

Rams defeat Merrimack and Bryant

Smithfield, R.I. – The Fordham volleyball team had a successful second day at the Bryant Invitational, sweeping a pair of matches with a 3-1 win over Merrimack and a 3-0 win over Bryant.
 
With the wins, Fordham improves to 6-4 on the season.
 
Game 1 – Fordham 3, Merrimack 1
• Senior Tatum Holderied led the Rams with eleven kills with a .429 hitting percentage, while junior Sophia Kuyn added nine, hitting at a .300 clip.
 
• Freshman Giada Ianuale dished out 27 assists and had six digs while Avery Lim chipped in with a team-high eleven digs.
 
• Defensively, Holderied recorded three block solos and three block assists.
 
• The Rams took the first two sets from Merrimack, 25-16 and 15-27, before dropping the third, 25-17, and rebounding to take the fourth, 25-22.
 
• The Rams trailed 15-7 in the fourth set but rallied for ten straight points to take the lead for good, 17-15.
 
• Senior Lola Fernandez had back-to-back service aces in the run while junior Mila Micunovic chipped in with a pair of kills during the run.
 
• Merrimack pulled within one, 21-20, later in the set before the Rams scored three unanswered points to take a commanding 24-20 lead.
 
Game 2 – Fordham 3, Bryant 0
• The Rams swept the Bulldogs in three sets, 25-16, 25-15, and 26-24.
 
• Kuyn led the Rams at the net with 10 kills and only one error, notching a .643 hitting percentage while freshman Andrea Stanojevic added eight kills with a .313 hitting percentage.
 
• Ianuale again led Fordham with 29 assists and added eight digs to go with four service aces.
 
• As a team the Rams hit .299 in the match with 39 kills.
 
What's Next?
• The Rams travel to Statesboro, Georgia, to compete in the Georgia Southern Invitational on September 18 and 19.
 
• Fordham will face North Florida on Friday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. and Kennesaw State at 5:00 p.m. before closing out play on Saturday, September 19, with a match against the host school at 12:00 p.m.
