Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Saint Louis

Series Finale Set for Sunday at 11:00 AM

Bronx, N.Y. – (May 8, 2026) – Saint Louis' Ben Cherico threw a complete game shutout in game one, while J.T. Crabbe's solo home run in game two put Saint Louis ahead for good,the Billikens swept a doubleheader from the Fordham Rams, 4-0 and 7-2, at Houlihan Park on Friday.
 
Game 1 – Saint Louis 4, Fordham 0
  • It was a pitcher's duel between Saint Louis' Ben Cherico and Fordham's duo of Beau Elson and Declan Cawley, as both teams were held off the scoreboard through eight innings of play.
  • However, in the ninth, Saint Louis broke through for four runs, as the Billikens loaded the bases with one out.Joey Canzoni was hit by a pitch to force in a run, while J.T. Crabbe poked a bases clearing double down the right field line.
  • Cherico retired the Rams in order in the ninth to pitch the complete game shutout, allowing five hits with five strikeouts.
  • Fordham's Anthony Grabau was 3-for-4 with a double with Mason Dean and Tim Ford recording the other two hits.
  • Beau Elson went the first four innings for Fordham, allowing three hits with five strikeouts, while Declan Cawley (2-4) was hooked with the loss, allowing four runs in five innings of work.
 
Game 2 – Saint Louis 7, Fordham 2
  • Saint Louis opened the scoring right away in the first inning with an RBI-single by Hank Gomric for a 1-0 lead.
  • Taylor Kirk then tied the game for Fordham with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
  • After the Billikens grabbed a 2-1 in the top of the fifth, the Rams tied the game again in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Tommy McAndrews, his team-leading 12th of the season.
  • The game stayed tied until J.T. Crabbe hit a solo home run to left for a 3-2 Saint Louis lead, his first of the season.
  • The Billikens added four more runs in the eighth for the 7-2 win.
  • For Fordham, McAndrews was 3-for-4 with two doubles and home run, while Kirk was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • Chase Hanawalt (3-6) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT
  • The two teams conclude the series on Sunday with an 11:00 AM game with Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game.
