Softball Downs Top-Seeded Loyola at A-10 Championship

Rams advance to face #3 Dayton on Friday

St. Louis, Mo. – It's not known what music the Fordham softball squad was listening to prior to today's game with Loyola Chicago but it would be appropriate if it was Run DMC's "Walk This Way." The fourth-seeded Rams took advantage of 12 walks, four with the bases loaded, to defeat the top-seeded Ramblers, 13-5, in five innings on day two of the 2026 Betterment Atlantic 10 Championship at the Billiken Sports Complex.

With the win Fordham improves to 25-26 on the year and advances to play #3 Dayton on Friday at 11:00 a.m. (EDT)

Kate McGuire, who was named the 2026 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year prior to the game, showed that she's not all glove as she connected on a grand slam in the first inning and finished with five RBI in the game while yesterday's hero, Victoria Klimaszewski drove in three for the Rams.

How It Happened
  • The Rams jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first, highlighted by McGuire's grand slam, her first home run of the year.
  • After Loyola cut the lead to 5-2 with two in the bottom of the first, the Rams scored three times in the top of the third for an 8-2 lead.
  • With one out, Eva Koratsis and McGuire walked but Koratsis was forced at third on a fielder's choice.
  • Morgan Volgraf plated McGuire with a single and Klimaszewski followed with a double to bring in Volgraf and Sophie Nesturrick.
  • Fordham put the game away with a four-run fourth, without recording a hit, thanks to bases loaded walks from McGuire, Klimaszewski, and Neleh Nogay, and a bases loaded hit by pitch by Volgraf.
  • Olivia Simcoe went the distance in the circle for Fordham to pick up her 12th win of the year.
Notes
  • The 13 runs are the most scored by Fordham at an Atlantic 10 Championship game (previous high was eleven against Saint Louis in 2014)
  • The school record for walks in a game is 13, set in 2017 vs. Bryant
  • This is the fifth time the Rams had 12 walks in a game, the last time at St. John's in 2021.
  • Simcoe's 12 wins this season ties her for second most in the A-10.
  • Nogay now has 250 career hits, fourth on the Fordham career hits list, one shy of Allison Twarowski who sits in third.
  • Nogay leads the Atlantic 10 this year with 68 hits and is tops in the conference with a .395 batting average and with 48 runs scored.
  • Nogay's .374 career batting average would be a school record (current record is her .367 career average entering this year).
  • Nogay has hit safely in the last nine games.
  • Nogay is second in the A-10 and fifth in the nation with 34 stolen bases on the year, while she ranks sixth nationally with 0.69 stolen bases per game.
  • Nogay holds the Fordham record for career stolen bases with 117 after breaking the previous mark of 85 earlier this season. She became just the sixth active player in all of Division I softball with 100 career steals, reaching triple digits against Army on Mar. 25.
  • Klimaszewski has hit safely in the last six games and is 3-for-5 with six RBI in the two Atlantic 10 Championship games.
  • The Ram offense leads the league with 413 hits as a team, with seven different Rams posting 30 or more hits individually, and they lead the league with a .292 team batting average.
  • Fordham is now 47-31 all-time in Atlantic 10 Championship games, 2-0 against Loyola Chicago.
