Donnelly & McAndrews Power Fordham Past URI, 8-5

Ram Sluggers Combine for Three Home Runs in Fordham Victory

Kingston, R.I. – (May 1, 2026) – Joey Donnelly and Tommy McAndrews combined for three home runs on Friday, while Beau Elson pitched a solid six innings, as Fordham opened their three-game Atlantic 10 series at Rhode Island with an 8-5 win at Bill Beck Field.
 
With the win, Fordham improved to 23-24 on the season, 13-9 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island moved to 18-26 on the year, 11-11 in the league.
 
THE GAME
  • Fordham opened with a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI-double by Tommy Markey, scoring Ernie Little from second.
  • After Rhode Island tied the game on an RBI-ground out, Fordham recaptured the lead on a sacrifice fly by Tim Ford.
  • URI once again tied the game on an RBI-double in the fourth, but Fordham answered with back-to-back home runs by Tommy McAndrews and Joey Donnelly in the fifth inning to go up by a 4-2 count.
  • Fordham then rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead, 8-4, highlighted by a two-run home run by Donnelly, his second of the game.
  • Rhode Island would hit a solo home run in the ninth, but it would not be enough as Fordham closed out the 8-5 victory.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Donnelly had the biggest day for Fordham, going 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs, and three RBI, while McAndrews was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.
  • For Donnelly and McAndrews, they became only the third set of Rams to hit at least 10 home runs in a single season, joining Zach Selinger and Peter DeMaria in 2023 and Mike Marchiano and Vince Lumia in 1997.
  • McAndrews' home run was the 27th of his career, moving him into a tie for fifth all-time at Fordham with Bobby Kingsbury (2000-02)
  • Markey finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI with Little having a double and two runs scored.
  • Beau Elson (6-4) earned his sixth win of the season, allowing four runs over six innings of work, while Declan Cawley recorded his fifth save with three innings of one-run relief.
  • Fordham has now won seven consecutive conference games for the first time since 2007 (eight games).
