Bronx, N.Y. – (April 26, 2026) – It's rare to see a walk-off win, but to see two in a doubleheader is special day. That is exactly what happened on Sunday at Houlihan Park, as the Fordham Rams posted walk-off wins in both ends of a doubleheader to sweep a three-game series from the George Mason Patriots by scores of 2-1 in seven innings and 5-4 in 12 innings.
With the sweep, Fordham improved to 22-23 on the year, 12-9 in the Atlantic 10, while George Mason fell to 19-22 overall, 10-11 in the league.
GAME 1 – Fordham 2, George Mason 1 (7 innings)
- Slated as a seven-inning contest due to league rules for a Sunday doubleheader, the game was scoreless through four innings.
- George Mason netted the opening run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI-single by Julius Bangerise.
- Fordham tied the game at one in the sixth inning when Tommy McAndrews hit a solo home run to left, his team leading tenth of the season, becoming the 11th Ram ever to reach double-digit home runs in a season.
- The Rams then walked off with the win in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Mason Dean tripled to left center and after a pair of intentional walks, scored on an RBI-single by Tommy Markey.
- Chase Hanawalt (3-5) was solid on the mound, throwing the complete game win, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts.
- McAndrews finished 2-for-3 with a home run, while Dean was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.
GAME 2 – Fordham 5, George Mason 4 (12 innings)
- While game one was a seven-inning game, game two was supposed to be a regular nine-inning contest that ended up going 12 innings.
- The Patriots struck first with a four-run second inning and a 4-0 lead before Fordham got a run back in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Caden Young.
- The Rams then scored once in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Joey Donnelly, pulling within a 4-2 score.
- Fordham then rallied in the ninth inning to tie the game at four. Hanawalt singled to left center as a pinch-hitter with two outs, while Tommy Markey moved him to third on a double down the left field line. Taylor Kirk then plated both runs with a single to center.
- The game stayed tied until the 12th inning, where Anthony Grabau was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double by Donnelly with one out.Madden Ocko then laced a ground ball to first for a run scoring ground out to give Fordham a 5-4 win.
- Fordham's bullpen trio of Robbie Stewart, Andrew Kapica, and Declan Cawley were masterful, as they did not allow a hit over the final eight innings of the game.
- Cawley (2-3) registered the win after pitching four hitless innings of relief with six strikeouts, while Stewart went 3.1 innings of no-hit relief.
- Donnelly finished 4-for-6 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI with Kirk going 2-for-6 with two RBI and a stolen base.
