Late Inning Rallies by Fairfield Down Fordham

Stags Hit Four Home Runs in the Final Two Innings to Take 12-6 Decision

Bronx, N.Y. – (April 21, 2026) – Fairfield's TJ Schmalzle drove in four runs and was one of four Stag players to hit a home run, as Fairfield rallied for a 12-6 win over the Fordham Rams on Tuesday at Houlihan Park.
 
THE GAME
  • Fordham opened with a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI-ground out by Madden Ocko.
  • The Rams extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning, as Tommy Markey and Tommy McAndrews each had a sacrifice fly, while Joey Donnelly connected on a two-run home run to center, his eighth of the season.
  • Fairfield got into the game with two runs in the fifth, scoring a run on a failed pickoff attempt and an RBI-single to make it, 5-2.
  • The score stayed that way until the eighth inning when Fairfield scored five times to take a 7-5 lead, highlighted by a three-run home run by Nolan Colby.
  • The Stags added another five runs in the ninth inning to go up by a 12-5 score, getting two solo home runs and a three-run home run in the frame.
  • Fordham finished the scoring with an RBI single by Donnelly for the 12-6 final.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Declan Cawley (1-3) took the loss, allowing six runs over 1.2 innings of work.
  • Caden Chavez had his best start of the season for Fordham, pitching three scoreless innings, while Aric Berg threw two innings of scoreless relief.
  • At the plate, Donnelly was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while Taylor Kirk was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
  • Anthony Grabau was also 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
