Baseball Completes Series Sweep of La Salle

Chase Hanawalt Strikes Out Eight in Game One Win, while Taylor Kirk Records Four Hits in Game Two Win

Philadelphia, Pa. – (April 18, 2026) – The Fordham baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of the La Salle Explorers on Saturday, winning both ends of a doubleheader, 5-4 and 10-3, at Hank DeVincent Field in Philadelphia.
 
GAME 1 – Fordham 5, La Salle 4
  • After scoring the opening run of the game on an error in the first inning, Fordham increased the lead to 2-0 in the third inning on an RBI single by Tommy McAndrews.
  • The Rams made it 4-0 in the fifth inning when Anthony Grabau connected on a two-run single to left field.
  • The teams then exchanged runs to make it a 5-1 game, but La Salle made the game interesting with a three-run eighth inning, capitalizing on two Fordham errors to put the score at 5-4.
  • The Explorers then loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs, but Fordham's Aric Berg was able to get the final out to close out the win for the Rams.
  • Chase Hanawalt (2-5) was marvelous on the mound for Fordham, allowing just one run on three hits with eight strikeouts in the win, while for Berg it was his sixth save of the season, marking a new career-high.
  • At the plate, Madden Ocko was 2-for-4 with a double, while Grabau was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
  • Taylor Kirk was also 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base for the Rams.
 
GAME 2 – Fordham 10, La Salle 3
  • La Salle was up 2-1 after two innings of play before Fordham had the big inning with a six-run third inning and a 7-2 lead.
  • Grabau and McAndrews each had an RBI single with Ocko having a two-run double to highlight the third inning.
  • Fordham added to the lead with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to finish out the 10-3 victory.
  • Aidan Dowd (2-3) was solid on the mound for Fordham, allowing one earned run over six innings, while Andrew Kapica recorded his first collegiate save with three innings of two-hit relief.
  • Kirk had the big game for Fordham, going 4-for-6 with a stolen base, run scored, and an RBI, while Grabau and McAndrews each had two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI in the game.
  • Ocko was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI with Mason Dean also having a pair of RBI.
