Bronx, N.Y. – (March 7, 2026) – The Fordham baseball team opened the home portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader against the Cornell Big Red at Houlihan Park.
Fordham is now 3-9 overall, while Cornell moved to 1-8.
GAME 1 – Fordham 7, Cornell 2
- Fordham quickly got out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Tommy McAndrews in the first inning.
- After getting a single run in the fourth inning, McAndrews made it a 6-0 lead for Fordham, connecting on a three-run home run to left, his second of the season.
- Cornell put together a rally in the eighth, scoring twice and loading the bases with two outs to trail, 6-2. Declan Cawley came in from the Fordham bullpen to strike out Jake Hower to end the Cornell rally.
- The Rams added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-double by Matt Dieguez to cap the 7-2 win.
- Beau Elson improved to 2-1 on the season, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits with two strikeouts, while Cawley earned his first collegiate save, recording the final four outs of the game.
- McAndrews led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and tying a career-high with five RBI.
GAME 2 – Cornell 3, Fordham 1
- Game two was a pitcher's duel with scoring chances at a premium with just one run over the first five innings, which came on a Big Red sacrifice fly.
- Fordham tied the game at one in the sixth inning, taking advantage of a Cornell error and eventually scoring a run on a Taylor Kirk sacrifice fly.
- Cornell took the lead right back in the seventh, as Hower hit a solo home run to left for a 2-1 lead.
- The Big Red added an insurance run in the ninth for the 3-1 win, as the pitching trio of Huxley Holcombe, John Hegarty, and Max Foster combined for a one-hitter.
- That effort spoiled an excellent performance on the mound by Fordham's Chase Hanawalt, who threw a career-long eight innings, allowing two runs with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
