Spiders Score Three in the Eighth to Rally for Win

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 21, 2026) – Richmond's RJ Johnson, Jr. hit the game-tying two-run home run, while Dylan Winebrenner had the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning, as the Spiders rallied past the Fordham Rams, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Houlihan Park.
 
The loss put Fordham at 10-11 overall, 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond moved to 12-11 on the year, 1-4 in the league.
 
THE GAME
  • Richmond scored first in the second inning on an RBI-double by Chris Schaller, scoring Sean Scanlon from second.
  • Fordham went ahead 2-1 in the fifth inning, using some small ball.The Rams netted runs on a squeeze bunt by Ernie Little and an RBI ground out by Tommy Markey.
  • The Rams increased the lead to 3-1 in the seventh inning, as with runners at the corners, Markey drove in his second run of the game on a bunt single.
  • The Spiders though rallied for three runs in the eighth inning off Fordham reliever Andrew Kapica for a 4-3 advantage, getting a two-run home run by RJ Johnson Jr. and an RBI-single by Dylan Winbrenner.
 
FORDHAM GAME NOTES
  • Kapica (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits over 1.2 innings of work.
  • Chase Hanawalt went the first six innings, allowing one urn on five hits with five strikeouts.
  • Joey Donnelly went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for Fordham, while Markey was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
