Davidson, N.C. – (March 13, 2026) – Davidson's Scotty Edwards drove in two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Wildcats a 9-8 win over the Fordham Rams at Wilson Field in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams.
Fordham falls to 6-10 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Davidson improved to 9-7 and 1-0.
THE GAME
- Fordham opened with a 2-0 lead by the third inning, scoring runs on a double play and an infield single by Tommy McAndrews.
- Davidson then knotted the game at two in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run home run by Scotty Edwards.
- The Wildcats then scored three times in the fourth inning and twice in the fifth for a 7-2 lead.
- The Rams came back to tie the game at seven in the top of the seventh inning. Tommy Markey started the rally with an RBI-double, while Taylor Kirk scored on a wild pitch. McAndrews followed with a two-run home run to left, his team leading fourth of the season. After a pitching change, Chase Hanawalt connected on a solo home run to left, his third of the year, to tie the game.
- In the eighth, Fordham used the long ball again as Joey Donnelly crushed a solo home run to right center, his second of the season for an 8-7 lead.
- However, Edwards came through with a two-run single to put the Wildcats back ahead, 9-8.
- Fordham put two runners aboard in the ninth but were unable to plate the tying run.
GAME NOTES
- Declan Cawley (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits over four innings with four strikeouts.
- Starter Beau Elson went four-plus innings, giving up seven runs with seven strikeouts.
- McAndrews finished 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while Markey was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Donnelly was also 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored.
