WEST POINT, N.Y. -- After taking the lead with a fifth inning rally, freshman Sydney May shutdown the final five Black Knights batters Wednesday on just 21 pitches to seal a 3-2 win for Fordham University Softball at Army.
Olivia Simcoe started in the circle and picked up her third win of the season for Fordham, as the right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
May then threw 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout to earn her first collegiate save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A scoreless pitchers duel through the first three innings, the Rams put the first run on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, as Eva Koratsis broke the deadlock with a one-out solo home run, her second in the last three games.
The Black Knights then tied the ballgame at one in the bottom of the frame, before the Rams came back to reclaim their advantage in the fifth inning.
Fordham brought home a pair, walking in a run with Kate McGuire at the dish, before the winning run came home off of Forcucci's RBI single, which brought the Rams lead to 3-1.
Army put one more run on the board before the game was over, but May grabbed the final five outs in the circle in just 21 pitches without allowing a hit, as the Rams held on for the 3-2 win.
