Baseball Powers Past Iona, 14-2

Mason Dean Connects on Grand Slam with Five RBI, while Tommy Markey Has First Career Five-Hit Game

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 10, 2026) – The Fordham Rams had the offense rolling on Tuesday afternoon at Houlihan Park, scoring 14 runs on 15 hits, which included four home runs, as they defeated Iona, 14-2.
 
Fordham improved its record to 5-9 overall, while Iona is 3-7.
 
THE GAME
  • Fordham scratched a run across in the first inning off an Iona failed pickoff attempt.
  • The Rams then added four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Taylor Kirk, his first of the season, an RBI-double by McAndrews and an RBI-single by Donnelly.
  • After Iona hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it, 5-1, the Rams answered with RBI-singles by Kirk and Mason Dean put the lead at 7-1.
  • Fordham started to put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, when Dean hit a grand slam home run to right center for his second of the season and an 11-1 advantage.
  • Fordham finished its scoring with a run in the sixth on an RBI-single by Matt Dieguez and two in the seventh on solo home runs by Tommy Markey and Chase Hanawalt.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Markey had a career day, going 5-for-5 with a home run, two stolen bases, and four runs scored.It was the first five-hit game of Markey's career and the first by a Ram since Daniel Bucciero (4/26/25 at VCU).
  • Dean finished 2-for-3 with a home run and a season-high five RBI to go with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
  • Kirk was 2-for-3 with a home run, four runs scored, and three RBI, while McAndrews ended up 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
  • Robbie Stewart (1-0) recorded the win, allowing one run over four innings with six strikeouts, while Andrew Kapica tossed two scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
