Softball Splits Opening Day in Georgia

The Rams defeated Belmont, 6-0 before falling to No. 15 Georgia, 7-1

ATHENS, GA - Senior Holly Beeman was dealing on Friday afternoon, hurling a shutout to lead Fordham past Belmont, 6-0 in game one, before falling to No. 15 Georgia, 7-1 in the nightcap to split a pair of games on opening day.

Beeman went the distance for Fordham in game one, giving up seven hits, walking two and striking out three her 44th career complete game, now leaving her three away from tying for fourth all-time at Fordham.

It was also Beeman's 10th career shutout, becoming just the ninth player in program history to toss double-digit shutouts, one away from tying for seventh on the all-time list.

At the plate, the Rams were led by senior Nicki Sudall, who went 4-for-7 on the day with four RBIs across the two games. Senior Kate McGuire furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in game one.

Senior Neleh Nogay also contributed for Fordham, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate against Belmont while adding a walk and a stolen base, placing her just one steal away from tying the program record of 85.

HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED

The Rams took the lead for good with the first run of the inning in the fourth. Senior Eva Koratsis came across to score the lone run in the frame for Fordham to get them on the board.

Continuing to tack onto their lead the Rams then added runs in the fifth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the seventh when they scored three times, two off the bat of Sudall.

GAME ONE NOTES

» Beeman tossed a seven-hit shutout for the Rams, while striking out three.
» Sudall compiled three base knocks in the game for Fordham.
» Fordham's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed three runs across.

Trailing 7-0, the Rams first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Fordham got an RBI single from senior Nicki Sudall, scoring freshman Aubre Zvovushe-Ramos from second base. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

» Simcoe tallied three strikeouts on the night in her first outing of the season.
» Sudall led the Rams at the plate, going 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Fordham returns to action tomorrow with two more games at the Black and Red Showcase, when they take on No. 15 Georgia again at 1:00 p.m. followed by a meeting with Missouri State at 6:00 p.m.
