Fordham Falls in Season Finale, 77-69 at St. Bonaventure

The Rams will open the A-10 Tournament Wednesday Afternoon

ST. BONAVENTURE, NY --The Fordham women's basketball team got a 25-point performance from the bench, but fell 77-69 to St. Bonaventure on the road Saturday in the regular season finale.

The Rams (10-19, 2-16) had four players score in double figures, led by Alexis Black, who had 18 points. Tia Morgan tacked on 15 points off the bench and Lakresha Edwards helped out with 13 points and two steals.

Ornella Niankan pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up numerous second chance opportunities for Fordham, grabbing 12 offensive boards and turning them into seven second chance points.

The Fordham defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 21 Saint Bonaventure turnovers while committing 16. Those takeaways turned into 29 points on the offensive end of the floor. Carryn Easley's four steals led the way individually for the Rams.

How It Happened

Fordham started off strong, putting together a 16-14 lead heading into the second quarter. Fordham did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 16 points close to the basket.

The home side rallied to take a 19-18 lead before Fordham went on a 5-0 run starting at the 7:45 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Black, to take a 23-19 lead. The Bonnies then came roaring back to take a 33-23 lead heading into halftime.

St. Bonaventure continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 49-35 advantage before Fordham went on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a three from Edwards, to trim its deficit to 49-45 with three seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Fordham knocked down six three-pointers in the quarter to score 18 of its 22 total points.

The Bonnies kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 60-47 advantage before Fordham went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Morgan's three, to shrink the deficit to 60-52 with 4:00 to go in the contest. The Rams were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 77-69. Fordham fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 24 points.
