Women's Basketball Outlasted at Rhode Island

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI --The Fordham women's basketball team held Rhode Island to just 18.8 percent from deep in a 3-for-16 shooting performance, but fell 69-39 to the Rams on the road Saturday.

Lakresha Edwards led the Rams on the day with 10 points, while Alexis Black tallied eight points off the bench and Emma Wilson-Saltos added six points and six rebounds.

Wilson-Saltos pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Fordham, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into five second chance points.

Fordham's defense held Rhode Island to only 18.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

How It Happened

Fordham started off strong, putting together a 10-8 lead heading into the second quarter. Fordham did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 10 points close to the basket, and held Rhody off the board for over 6:00.

The visiting Rams could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 25-15.

Fordham's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Rams faced a 44-28 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Fordham's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled eight of the team's 13 third-quarter points.

Fordham could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 69-39. Fordham took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.
