Wilmington, N.C. – (February 20, 2026) – Behind a career-high eight strikeouts from
Beau Elson and four scoreless innings of relief from
Declan Cawley and
Aric Berg, the Fordham Rams earned their first win of the season on Friday, topping UNCW, 3-1, at Brooks Field in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Fordham is now 1-4 on the season, while UNCW moved to 2-3.
THE GAME
- The Rams opened the scoring right away in the first inning, loading the bases and receiving an RBI-single by Anthony Grabau, while picking up a second run on a double play.
- After UNCW pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning, Fordham regained a two-run edge in the fourth, courtesy of two walks and an error by the Seahawks.
- The Seahawks were primed to tie the game in the fifth inning with two runners in scoring position and no out, but Beau Elson struck out the next three batters to end the threat.
- Fordham's pitching trio of Elson, Declan Cawley, and Aric Berg were the rest of the story, posting 13 total strikeouts in the game and allowing just one hit over the final four innings.
GAME NOTES
- Elson (1-0) earned the win, allowing one run on six hits over five innings, while striking out a career-high eight batters.
- Cawley tossed three innings of one-hit relief with three strikeouts with Berg posting a perfect ninth for his first save.
- Grabau was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense.
- Ernie Little went 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Taylor Kirk reached base three times on a hit and two walks.
- The win was Fordham's first over UNCW in six all-time games.
