Nogay Sets Program Record in Day One Split in California

The Fordham senior broke the Fordham stolen base record of 85 in game one Friday

San Diego, Calif. - Splitting the first day of action at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in California, Fordham University Softball defeated Oregon State, 5-2 in eight innings, before falling to North Dakota, 3-2 on Friday.

Senior Holly Beeman was dominant on Friday, punching out nine Oregon State hitters over eight innings of work in the circle to help lead the Fordham Rams over the Beavers 5-2 in game one.

In addition to her nine strikeouts, Beeman went eight innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits for Fordham.

In the batter's box, the Rams were led by senior Neleh Nogay, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Nogay also tallied three stolen bases in game one, making her Fordham's new all-time leader for stolen bases with now 87 in her career, surpassing the previous mark of 85 set by Brianna Pinto '22.

Freshman Sadira Forcucci put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in game one. Senior Kate McGuire also contributed for Fordham, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

In game two, Fordham got three hits from sophomore Morgan Volgraf in the loss to North Dakota. Sophomore Elizabeth Gaisior stepped in the circle for Fordham, as the southpaw went six innings, giving up three runs on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.

In addition to Volgraf, senior Neleh Nogay compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4, and sophomore Ava Vandernoth also helped out for Fordham, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI in game two.

HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED

The Rams got on the scoreboard first, with a run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Forcucci, scoring Nogay from second base.

After the Beavers tied the ballgame at one, the Rams came back to retake the lead in the eighth inning. The Fordham offense exploded for four runs in the extra frame, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of McGuire, which brought the Rams lead to 5-1. Oregon State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, as Fordham held on for the 5-2 win.

The Fighting Hawks then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the fifth inning, when the Rams responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. 

Nogay came across to score the lone run of the inning for Fordham, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Fighting Hawks. The Rams were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME TWO NOTES

» Volgraf led the Rams, compiling three hits in the ballgame.
