Fordham Secures 42-39 Win At Saint Louis With Fourth-Quarter Comeback

The Rams outscored the Billikens 15-8 in the final 10 minutes of play

ST. LOUIS, MO - The Fordham University women's basketball team rallied from a 31-27 deficit after three quarters of play Wednesday to defeat the Saint Louis Billikens 42-39, thanks to an impressive defensive outing on the road.

Carryn Easley led the Rams (10-15, 2-12) with 11 points, six rebounds and four steals. Emma Wilson-Saltos tacked on seven points, six rebounds and four blocks and Anastasija Veljovic chipped in as well with six points and four steals.

Fordham grabbed 41 rebounds in Wednesday's game compared to Saint Louis' 39, led by nine boards from Precious Omoshola. The Rams also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into seven second chance points.

Fordham's defense held Saint Louis to only 8.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 28 percent from the field.

How It Happened

After falling behind 5-0, Fordham went on a 6-0 run with 5:12 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Easley, to take a 6-5 lead. The Rams then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 9-6.

The Rams and Billikens then played an even second quarter, 10-10, making the halftime score 19-16 in favor of Saint Louis.

Saint Louis continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 26-18 advantage before Fordham went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 26-23 with 4:18 to go in the third. Saint Louis countered and stretched its lead to 31-27 heading into the fourth. Fordham took advantage of eight Saint Louis turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Fordham narrowed its deficit to 37-34 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Kaila Berry's layup, to seize a 40-37 lead with 2:07 to go in the contest. The Rams held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 42-39 win. Fordham knocked down its only two shots from beyond the arc to account for six of its 15 points in the final 10 minutes of play.
