BRONX, NY -- A back and forth contest all game long, Fordham women's basketball team fell to the Saint Louis Billikens 67-57 in overtime at home Wednesday.
The Rams (9-10, 1-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Tia Morgan, who had 11 points and six rebounds. Carryn Easley tacked on 10 points, six assists and three steals and Lakresha Edwards added eight points, six rebounds and three steals.
Fordham grabbed 51 rebounds in Wednesday's game compared to Saint Louis' 44, led by eight boards from Precious Omoshola. The Rams also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 27 rebounds into 11 second chance points.
Fordham's defense held Saint Louis to only 35.6 percent shooting from the field, including 22.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Rams also limited Zya Nugent to 3-of-13 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
After falling behind 8-7, Fordham went on a 9-0 run with 3:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from London Liley, to take a 16-8 lead. The Rams then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 16-10 advantage. Fordham did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 16 points close to the basket.
The Rams maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 27-26 edge. Fordham dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.
Saint Louis then took a 35-34 lead following intermission before Fordham went on a 5-0 run to grab a 39-35 lead with 3:21 to go in the third. The Rams held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 44-40 edge. Fordham took advantage of five Saint Louis turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.
Fordham then surrendered that advantage as Saint Louis forced overtime by tying things up at 55-55 by the end of the fourth.
Saint Louis then took control in overtime and won 67-57.
