Fordham Rallies from Second-half Deficit to Defeat St. Bonaventure 66-53

Emma Wilson Saltos tallied a career-best 16 points and 16 rebounds in the victory

BRONX, NY --The Fordham women's basketball team fought back from a 10-point deficit at 43-33 with 3:51 left in the third quarter to defeat the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies 66-53 at home Sunda.y

The Rams (9-9, 1-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Emma Wilson-Saltos, who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Lakresha Edwards tacked on 16 points and four assists and Carryn Easley helped out with 10 points, seven assists and two steals.

Led by Wilson-Saltos' four offensive rebounds, Fordham did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.

Fordham forced 28 Saint Bonaventure turnovers while committing 16 themselves in Sunday's game. The Rams turned those takeaways into 27 points on the other end of the floor. Kaila Berry led the way individually with four steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 7-4, Fordham went on an 8-0 run with 6:52 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Maysen Hill, to take a 12-7 lead. The Rams then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 19-12 advantage. Fordham did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 19 points close to the basket.

The Rams could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 34-27.

Saint Bonaventure continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-31 advantage before Fordham went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Edwards, to trim its deficit to 43-37 with 3:15 to go in the third. The Rams continued to reduce the Saint Bonaventure lead, shrinking it to 45-43 by the end of the third quarter. Fordham played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 16 points in the paint.

Fordham managed to gain control and had a 58-53 lead before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Berry's layup, to grow the lead to 66-53 with four seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Fordham took advantage of seven Saint Bonaventure turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
