University Park, Pa. – The Fordham men's tennis team opened its 2026 spring season on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to Penn State at the Indoor Tennis Center.
The match opened with the Nittany Lions taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches. Eyal Shyovitz and Christos Glavas took the win over
Will Lokier and
Nicolas Garnier at third doubles, 6-2, before Reiya Hattori and Marcus Schoeman defeated
Dhananjay Athreya and
Mateusz Gradzki by the same score at second doubles.
In singles play, Athreya earned the point for the Rams at fourth singles, dropping the first set, 7-5, before coming back to take the second, 6-3, and the tiebreaker, 10-7.
The Rams battled tough in the other singles matches with three of them going to a third set/tiebreaker. Lokier dropped the first set at second singles, 6-3, but came back to force a third set with a 6-0 win in the second set.
Diego Cueto took the first set at fifth singles, 6-4, but dropped the second and third, 6-3 and 6-2, while
Timotej Stofa dropped the first set at sixth singles, 6-1, but battled back to win the second, 6-3, before losing a tightly contested tiebreaker, 10-8.
