Rams Drop Wire-to-Wire battle with Dayton

Neither side led by more than three possessions at any point Saturday

BRONX, NY --The Fordham women's basketball team held Dayton to just 13 percent from deep in a 3-for-23 shooting performance from three-point range, but fell 66-58 to the Flyers at home Saturday.

The Rams (8-8, 0-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Lakresha Edwards, who had 17 points and two steals. Carryn Easley tacked on 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals and Emma Wilson-Saltos added four points, three steals and three blocks.

Led by Precious Omoshola's three offensive rebounds, Fordham did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in five second chance points.

The Fordham defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 21 Dayton turnovers while committing 16. Those takeaways turned into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Wilson-Saltos' three steals led the way individually for the Rams.

How It Happened

After falling behind 11-7, Fordham went on a 6-0 run with 3:38 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Tia Morgan, to take a 13-11 lead. Dayton then responded to tie things up at 18-18 heading into the second quarter. Fordham got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for seven of its 18 total points.

The game stayed tied until Fordham went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Omoshola, to take a 29-24 lead. The Flyers then battled back to even it up at 31-31 heading into halftime. Fordham dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 13 points close to the basket.

After intermission, Dayton snatched a 41-37 lead before Fordham answered back by going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Morgan, to grab a 42-41 lead with 3:36 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Rams added three points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 48-44 edge. Fordham played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.

Dayton then erased the Fordham lead in the game's final quarter for a 66-58 comeback victory. Fordham fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 10 points.
