Talabong, Özaslan Tally Career High's in Five-Set Thriller Over Columbia

The Rams sweep the Columbia Invitational, heading into a six-match homestand

NEW YORK, NY -- Behind a pair of career high performances on the offensive and defensive ends, Fordham University volleyball claimed a five-set thriller (22-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-19, 15-10) over Columbia Saturday. With the win, the Rams sweep the weekend at the Columbia Invitational, following wins over Northeastern and New Haven Friday, improving to 4-2 on the season.

The Rams were led by a career-high 21 kills from Zoe Talabong, who also had 19 digs and Özge Özaslan who collected a career-high 26 digs on the afternoon. Also posting a double-doubles from both Brown, who had 10 kills and 10 digs, and Erynn Sweeney also added nine kills to help the attack, while defensively, the Rarms saw nine blocks from Tatum Holderied.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Rams found themselves in a close one out of the gates, falling in the first set 25-22. Columbia grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Lions took over in the second half of the frame.

SET 2 | Fordham tied the match at 1-1 after a dominant 25-11 set-two win. The Rams led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory, hitting .500 over the course of the set, and opening up as much as a 14 point lead at 24-10 before finishing off the period.

SET 3 | Fordham dropped a tough set three, 25-19 in another set that was back-and-forth much of the way. Fordham trailed by as many as six points as Columbia grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up 14 times before the Lions pulled ahead.

SET 4 | Fordham responded to secure set four, 25-19 to force a fifth set, grabbing control at 3-2 and never looking back. The Rams led by six points at 24-18 before finishing off the stanza, collecting 16 kills along the way. Fordham also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set, and got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Columbia attacks in the stanza.

SET 5 | Back even heading to a winner take all fifth-set, the Rams' rally ws completed in a 15-10 fifth-set victory, to take the match 3-2. The Rams led from the first point on in the fifth set to secure the victory, opening up as much as a five point lead at 12-7 before finishing off the set. Z also supplemented their offense with three aces in the final set.
