Volleyball Racks Up 14 blocks in Sweep of FDU

The Rams have now won four in a row, behind another double-digit shutdown at the tape

BRONX, NY --The Fordham University volleyball team recorded double-digit rejections at the tape Thursday, tallying 14.0 blocks on the way to a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-18, 25-13) over FDU in the 2025 home opener at the historic Rose Hill Gym.

The non-conference victory marks the fourth straight for the Rams' after sweeping the Big Apple Tournament last weekend at Columbia, and improve their record to 5-2 on the young season. Fordham opened the first of three matches this weekend at the Rose Hill Gym with 10 or more blocks as a team for the fifth time in the first seven games of the season, the best start in program history, and also places the Rams amongst the Top-15 blocking teams in all of Division I.

Audrey Brown led the Rams, finishing with 13 kills on the day to lead the Rams offense, while finishing with a hitting percentage of .619. The Maroon and White also got 11 digs from Zoe Talabong along with seven blocks from Tatum Holderied and six rejections from Sophia Kuyn to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Rams opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-20. Fordham never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Rams took over the lead for good. Fordham also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set, and got a solid defensive performance from the front row, which blocked six FDU attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Fordham took set two 25-18 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Rams grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 once again in a set that showcased three lead changes before Fordham took control, using another solid defensive performance from the front row, which had four blocks in the frame.

SET 3 | Fordham finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep, winning set three by a wide margin, inclduign a 10-0 run at one point in the period. The Rams took the set 25-13, propelled by a solid performance on the attacking side. Fordham put together a .357 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set win, and the Rams ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza, and the front row had a solid defensive performance yet again, blocking four FDU attacks.

The Maroon and White continue the Rose Hill Classic tomorrow with the second game of the weekend against Hofstra, Friday at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+. That game will be followed by the third game of the tournament between FDU and Temple, scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
